  • This chic apartment in the romantic Upper Town is a real treat for those who want to sense Zagreb as it once was. It lies in the jewel of the City, the former borough of Gradec, which is the oldest part of the city, together with the neighbouring Kaptol. These two boroughs had been engaged in tough skirmishes once. Later they united into one city that spread further down to the South.

The apartment Red overlooks the beautiful neo-gothic Cathedral and Stone gate, the only preserved town gate of the original four. Although it is first mentioned as early as in Middle Ages, its current shape dates back to 1760, when the baroque Chapel of Holy Mother of God was built in its gateway around an old painting of a local artist. The painting miraculously survived the great fire that destroyed all wooden parts of the gate in 1731. Ever since, many people have been gathering in front of the miraculous painting daily, lighting candles in the honour of Our Lady and praying.

    Location

The apartment Red is located in the beautiful setting of the Upper Town, in the very heart of the City, next to the most famous Zagreb sights. Church of St Mark, Parliament, Stone Gate, Lotrščak Tower are all surrounding the apartment. Both living room and bedroom provide a unique view of the Cathedral and Upper Town's tile-roofed houses, some of which are over two hundred years old. Only minutes away there is a fresh food market Dolac which is also one of the Zagreb sightseeing musts. With its traditional red parasols, fantastic range of fresh produce by farmers from surrounding villages – this is one of the rare European markets of this kind. All major Zagreb sights are around the corner, waiting for you to explore them and admire them. It is a wonderful location for wonderful walks !
